Every bet has their own probability and their payouts are set accordingly for the winners. Some of these bets come with high risks, others present a low risk. So players need to pick their choice of bet according to their Roulette strategy.

One of the Outside bets is Even bet which offer players with a payment of 1-to-1. No wonder this Roulette bet is pretty popular among the players. Read on to find more details on Even bet and how they work.

What Are Even Bet in Roulette?

Even Roulette Bet basics

In European Roulette table, there are 37 numbers viz., 1 to 36 along with a single zero while in the American Roulette table, you will find 38 numbers ranging between 1 and 36 along with one single zero and one double zero. The same gets represented on the respective Roulette wheels too. So, on the Roulette wheel, these 36 numbers are divided equally into 18 odd and 18 even numbers. But the zeros whether single or double do not get represented as even or odd number. Once this is set, players get to make their bets by speculating if the ball will stop on an odd or even number. If the players predict it correctly, they get paid with a payout of 1:1 on their bet. This is known as Even bet.

The Probability of winning at the Roulette bet

Consider that the Roulette table had a total of 36 numbers only without any zeros in them. In this case, you will get half or 18 numbers as even and the rest half odd numbers. So when you make your Roulette bet on this setup, the odds of you winning an Even bet will be 50%, since the even make up for half the total numbers.

But this is not the case in reality. Roulette wheel does not come with just 36 numbers. Instead, in the European Roulette you will get an extra zero along with these 36 numbers which make up for 37 numbers and in American Roulette, you have two zeros which add up to a total of 38 numbers.

Therefore, when you calculate the winning probability in the case of European Roulette, it goes like 18 divided by 37 will be 48.64%. So according to this calculation, the probability of winning Even bet will be 1.01:1 and that too with a payout of 1:1. Similarly, in the case of American Roulette, the probability becomes 18/38 = 47.36%. Accordingly, the probability of winning an Even bet becomes 1.1-to-1 in American Roulette. But this is not considered and instead, the same payout as in the case of European Roulette is taken. This holds true for the Live Roulette games too.

The Rule of En Prison

The ‘En Prison’ rule is available in the French Roulette tips to bet along with some of the European Roulette bets. In French, ‘En Prison’ means ‘in prison’. So according to this, if the ball lands on zero after the spin players get to imprison their Even bets to play for next rounds. This means players get two spins at the cost of one if they are playing for bets of even-money with the ‘En Prison’ rule. Also, these bets end up lowering the house edge significantly.

How do the players benefit from Even bet?

Roulette bet come in two types, Inside bets and Outside bets. Inside bets are the bets which are applied on the group of numbers found inside the Roulette table. These bets are adjacent to each other and are made on a few numbers. Outside bets, on the other hand, are made on the many numbers found outside the Roulette table. The probability of winning Outside bets is higher compared to the Inside bets. As said earlier, Even bet is an Outside bet. Therefore, players can profit betting on the Even bets because they are Outside bets which present higher odds of winning and rules like ‘En Prison’ add more to the benefit of players.
